Vision

“Towards a psychotherapy for the poor”

The vision that Arnold Goldstein had was to help children, young people, and their families by creating an effective method that was cheap and easy to use.

Goldstein began in the 1960s to develop a program to be easily accessible and free to use, with as little hierarchy as possible. He wanted practitioners and researchers to work closely together so that ART would be constantly evolving. Goldstein often talked about the importance of sharing and always encouraged network exchange. ART was to be an open program that everyone could use, share, and be inspired by without a registered trademark associated with certificates. After Goldstein’s death, Barry Glick (co-author of the ART book) registered ART as a protected trademark, applicable in the USA only.

Shortly before his death in 2002, Goldstein initiated the International Center for Aggression Replacement Training (ICART) network to stimulate the spread and development of ART.
In 2012, ICART was renamed PREPSEC International, which is the current organization.

Dr Goldstein wanted practitioners and researchers to work closely together so that ART would be constantly evolving. Goldstein often talked about the importance of sharing and always encouraged network exchange. This too is PREPSEC International’s dream.
